AUSTRALIA: Immitracker vs. DOHA, immigration processing time insights (December 2023)

Based on the interest in and success of our Canadian monthly application processing time analysis, in 2024, we decided to launch the Australian equivalent for the most popular skilled immigration / visa programs. With the help of our users who thoughtfully put in their case information, we’re able to glean valuable insights regarding actual processing times for Australian immigration.

For each visa program and citizenship, the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DOHA) provides average processing time estimates. These official estimates by visa can be found here (and for citizenship here). From the cases that get logged in the Australian trackers on Immitracker, we noticed that sometimes the actual processing times can vary from the ones presented by the government.

December 2023 High Level Processing Time Comparison

For the first analysis, we’re presenting the Immitracker numbers for December 2023. The programs that Immitracker took for our analysis are from the most popular trackers and include:

In the graph below, we display the government processing time estimates for each of these programs (published the week of January 15th) on the left side and the actual processing time estimates calculated by Immitracker on the right side. The Immitracker numbers were calculated based on the cases that successfully finished processing in December.

December 2023 Processing Time Analysis by Program

In this section, we break down our Immitracker processing time insights by individual program including the quantity of cases that were analyzed and the number of days it took on average for the case to go from submission to completion.

Citizenship

For Citizenship applicants, we analyzed 12 cases that were invited to their Citizenship Ceremony in December 2023.

The Citizenship Ceremony is the final step in the citizenship application process. During the ceremony, the applicant formally becomes an Australian citizen. The Australian government presents two separate processing timelines for citizenship: pre-application decision and post-approval (waiting on the citizenship ceremony to be scheduled).

The government claims that 90% of the applications should be processed within 13 months (from the date the application was submitted to the time the ceremony is held).

The skilled visa / immigration program analysis includes the SC190 and SC189 visas. We indicate the quantity of cases we analyzed for each of the visa programs and the average number of days it took these applicants to receive a visa grant in December 2023.

SC190 Visa Program

From the SC190 visa applicants, a total of 42 cases received their visa grant in December 2023 and it on average took them 319 days in order to receive it.

This particular visa program seems to have been processing slightly quicker than the government processing time standard of 12 months.

SC189 Visa Program

From the SC189 visa applicants, a total of 19 cases received their visa grant in December 2023 and it on average took them 364 days in order to receive it.

This particular visa program seems to have been processing exactly on par with the government processing time standard of 12 months.
